The Wireless In The Parks program is intended to be an open network for all to
use with easy access. As the Internet connectivity to the user of this program
relies on wireless technologies, standard SSID security has been disabled for
ease-of-use and convenience. Please note that many types of wireless
transmissions in the open wireless spectrum are insecure without this SSID
security turned on. However, when still using encrypted transmissions to secure
web servers and the like, your data is secure and in encrypted format. This
significantly reduces the risk you take when transmitting sensitive data. If you
must transmit sensitive data, please use an encrypted service such as HTTPS or
an encrypted VPN (virtual private network) connection to corporate networks.
Please remember that you are using an open wireless network with this free
service. We cannot accept any responsibility for actions that are done across
this network.
Please be aware that data transmitted while using Wireless in the Parks is not secured or encrypted in any way unless
you are using a secure server for your data transmissions. These transmissions can be compared to a cordless 900 MHz phone
that you use in your home. Any person with the right knowledge and equipment can listen and pick up your transmissions. We
are currently working on a process that will automatically encrypt these transmissions and make your data safer.
To find out if you are using a secure server for data transmissions, look in the bottom right-hand corner of your web browser.
If you see one of the following icons with a yellow or highlighted lock, then you are using a secure, encrypted connection.
